about the studio monitor program

The studio monitor will have one dedicated 3 - 4 hour shift each week. Half Moon Clay's studio will be available during this shift for our open studio members to use. These sessions are NOT instructor led, and you aren't expected to teach any classes.

During your shift, you will welcome folks into the studio, and be generally available to answer questions and help find tools. You'll also be responsible for ensuring everyone is respectful of the space (and each other) and leaves it as clean as they found it. We also encourage you to use the studio's equipment and work on your own projects during your shift.

You will receive a free open studio membership for as long as you're a studio monitor - it's important this program be something you find value in. While monitors are welcome to come by whenever they'd like during studio hours, we're capping each person at one "shift" per week.

Studio monitors will also have an optional opportunity to learn aspects of how to run a studio - loading and conducting kiln firings, mixing glazes, prepping pieces for display/sale and other class prep work.

who we're looking for

While experience with clay is certainly not required, we are looking for folks who are interested in learning as much as possible. You should also have a friendly, customer-service based mindset and not get flustered if a member asks a question you don’t know the answer to.

We received an overwhelming number of responses and unfortunately right now only have 5 total positions available. If you aren't selected, we still love you & want to hang out! We'll have plenty of community opportunities to connect over clay this season and hope to see you there.

what's next

We're doing a little schedule matchmaking. Please check out your work / class schedule and email 3 - 4 options (in order of preference) of when you'd like your shift to be. important: to be considered, email your schedule by Friday, December 24

Monitors selected for the program will be notified by December 31.

Our orientation date will be mid-January - all our monitors will get a chance to meet each other, get to know the studio and have a little intro session.

Open studio hours will begin the first week of February and will run continuously except during our 3-week summer break (dates TBD).
